Novak Djokovic is the favorite to win the men’s event at the 2020 US Open. Is there anyone good enough to challenge Novak this year? We believe, Thiem, Medevedev, or Tsitsipas possess the game to challenge and even defeat Djokovic. But we are getting ahead of ourselves, because Djokovic, Thiem, Medvedev, and Tsitsipas must make the semifinals first.
The seeding, at the US Open, will not allow a meeting between one of the other three and Djokovic before the semis. Djokovic, being the mental superior of the four, is most likely to make the semis. In the semis, however, either Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas could trouble the Serb.
Dominic Thiem will most likely meet Noval in the finals, assuming both actually make it there. Thiem won the last four of their six meetings. His most recent loss to Novak, at the Australian Open 2020, will serve him well in the next meeting between the two. Thiem lost the mental battle in the AO 2020 and relinquished a 2-1 lead to go down in the final. He will be the most dangerous of the three for Novak. But, Thiem is not as certain to make the final as Novak.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is as much a threat to Novak on the hard courts. Their head to head is an even 2-2 on the hard courts. Novak, however, leads the rivalry with a 3-2 advantage. Tsitsipas is certainly a more talented shot-maker of the two and has everything, except the mental strength to bring down Djokovic. Stefanos will most likely meet Novak in the semis, provided both can make that far.

Although Daniil Medvedev has taken Djokovic down on hard as well as the clay court, Novak enjoys a 4-2 overall advantage in their rivalry. Medvedev can only meet Novak in the semis and it may not be easy for him to recreate his 2019 performance this year. Daniil will also miss the energy of the crowd this year. He rode that same energy all the way to the finals in 2019.
We believe, Djokovic, Thiem, Medvedev, and Tsitsipas should make the semifinals in the 2020 US Open. Thiem, Daniil, and Stefanos also have the goods to challenge Novak for the title. Karen Khachanov possesses the game to trouble the Serb. He is 3-1 against Novak, and took Novak out in the final at the 2018 ATP Masters 1000 in Paris. But defeating Novak in a best of five sets format, we believe, is beyond Khachanov at this juncture. Karen, however, is most welcome to prove us wrong.
