Roger Federer is motivated by people’s craze for tennis and their desire to see him play. It appears Roger is as much in love with his fans as they are with him. Roger’s third round opponent is the 20 years old Casper Rudd, whose father, Christian Rudd, retired at the 2001 Rolad Garros, Federer’s eighth slam. Roger now gets to play against Christian Rudd’s son! Now, who’d have thunk of it?
The 63 ranked Casper overcame, a previous semifinalist at the French Open, Ernest Gulbis in the first, and beat Matteo Berretinni 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 in the second. Roger knew about Christian Rudd, but never played him and will now face his son Casper in the third round at the 2019 Roland Garros. Roger, in fact believes, he knows more about the father than about – his next round opponent – Casper Ruud.
Federer seemed a little in the unknown about Casper. “I know that [Casper has] improved a lot in recent years, and I think he plays very well on the clay. Again, I haven’t seen him play a whole lot. But for any 20-year-old to be on the big stage, playing a top guy, on a centre court, that’s what you dream of.”
Roger Federer seemed happy with the way he has performed in the early rounds at the 2019 Roland Garros. Federer came into the tournament without big expectations and is relieved at how it has turned out so far. “I must say I feel really good, considering I haven’t played here in that long. Especially if I think back a few weeks and months ago before Madrid, didn’t know how successful I was going to play or how I was going to feel on the clay,” said Federer, who was ousted in the quarterfinals of Madrid and did not play the quarter final at Rome because of an injury.
