French Open Tennis: Maria Sharapova wants us to believe that winning justifies everything; Serena Williams, however, stands for true girl power.

Serena Williams had a tough 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Kristina Pliskova in the first round and a three-set 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 battle against the seventeenth seed, Ashleigh Barty, in the second at the French Open 2018.

Serena’s grit was on full display in the first two rounds.

The first two matches clearly showed the rust that had gathered around Serena Williams’ game from the lack of competitive tennis since her maternity leave in April 2017. Serena, however, is a fierce competitor and refused to lose those matches and managed to eke out wins through sheer grit and determination.

Serena third round against Julia Georges, however, was a routine 6-3, 6-4 win. Julia is a dangerous player with five titles to her name, including one by overpowering the third-ranked Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 7-6(4) in the finals of the Auckland International, in New Zealand this year.

To Sharapova, the end justifies the means; Serena, on the other hand, exemplifies true girl-power.

Serena’s latest performance against Julia Georges comes at the right moment and just before her next round against Maria Sharapova who, after years of doping and a string of wildcards since her return, has taken upon herself to prove, what we all suspect, that winning justifies and cures all ills. Sharapova expects the tennis fans to forget about her nearly ten years of Meldonium consumption, to get an unfair advantage over her opponents, and focus on her wins instead; and, with the WTA’s support, most have obliged.

Here’s a million $ question: Is it okay for Sharapova to have doped if she beats Serena Williams at the 2018 French Open?
