Andy Murray’s newfound perspective, Federer’s tenth title at Halle, and Lopez’s rampage at the Queen’s Club.

The charge of the veterans last week ended with the tenth Halle title for Roger Federer, singles and doubles crown for Feliciano Lopez, and doubles title for Andy Murray at the Fever Tree Championship in the Queen’s Club.  For Murray it was also the first competitive event after his hip surgery earlier this year.

Andy Murray teamed with Feliciano Lopez to beat the top seeds Juan Sebastian and Robert Farah at the Queens Club Championship in London. It was the first event for Murray, with a metal hip, after his hip surgery earlier this year. He appeared cheerful throughout the tournament and seemed to relish being on the court and hitting tennis balls again.

“I just won the doubles with Feli, with a metal hip. It’s mental, really,” said Murray. “That’s a cool thing to be able to have done just because of where I was a few months ago. I wasn’t thinking about this, I was really happy to be pain-free and enjoying life, literally just doing normal things. It’s really special. It’s more special than a lot of the singles tournaments that I’ve won for a lot of different reasons.”

Murray has a different perspective and happier outlook overall.

After coming within hair’s breadth to never playing again, Murray is now enjoying tennis more than he ever has?

“I’m happy with playing tennis and training and having no pain anymore, said Murray.” If I keep progressing, I would like to try to play singles. My schedule could potentially be a bit different. I might not play three weeks in a row or two weeks back-to-back, for example. But I’m just quite happy doing what I’m doing now and just taking each week as it comes.”

Feliciano Lopez was the wild card at the event!

Feliciano Lopez received a wild card entry into into the event and he justified it by playing some very thrilling matches over the week and en-route to the titles. High on adrenaline, the 37 years old veteran won three tight matches on Saturday, and two more on Sunday.

The grass is tailor made for Feli’s serve and volley, and chip and charge style. Four of his seven titles have come on the grass, and he is most at home on it. He came into the tournament with just three main draw singles wins this year and went home with two trophies.

Feliciano Lopez won the singles and doubles titles at the Queen’s Club Championships.

Feliciano Lopez had won the Queen’s Club singles by defeating Marin Cilic in the 2017 final. He routed Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(2) in a tough three setter to win the battle of the veterans last Sunday.

“I thought the best moment of my career was when I won this tournament in 2017, but it’s right now,” said Lopez. “He was coming up with unbelievable passing shots and I was a little bit desperate, to be honest. The tie-break is a bit of a lottery, of course, but I’m just so happy to win here.”
